Are you ill or thirsty?

Thirst signals are often misinterpreted as pain, resulting in a vist to the doctor and a prescription for drugs.

This story is a personal one from Nicki Douglas (Pure Eau director) ‘’A friend was suffering from dreadful headaches and went to see her doctor. After examination, he decided she should have a brain scan. I saw her after her doctor’s appointment and she told me the scan would be the following week. I suggested she drink 2 litres of water a day until then and see if she noticed any difference. Suffice to say she was dehydrated and never had to put herself through the scan.’’ The moral of this tale is that by the time we experience thirst, various organ or cell functions have already been lost. Every function inside the body is regulated by, and depends upon, water. Water must be available to carry out functions all over the body.

‘’Without sufficient water….some more remote parts of the body will not receive the vital elements that water supplies. Without sufficient water to constantly wet all parts, your body's drought-management system kicks into action. The histamine-directed chemical messenger systems are activated to arrange a new, low quota of water for the drought-stricken area. When histamine and its subordinate "drought managers" come across pain-sensing nerves, they cause pain. This is why dehydration produces pain as its first alarm signal. If the dehydration persists and is not corrected naturally with water, it becomes symptom-producing and, in time, develops into a disease condition." *
