Will Any Water Do?

No. Some people believe that as long as a drink is water based it counts as part of a person’s recommended daily fluid intake. Not true. If you understand the importance of water in the functioning of the human body, then you will understand that drinks such as tea, coffee, alcohol and various manufactured beverages are dehydrating. Rather than help to maintain water in the body, they help to get rid of it. Drinks containing caffeine tend to be excreted quickly, taking with them all the water in the fluid.

Those who drink enough alcohol to suffer with a hangover know exactly how it feels but may not understand what is happening to them.  Ethanol (in alcohol) has a dehydrating effect (such substances are known as diuretics), which can cause the headaches, dry mouth and lethargy that are so familiar to anyone who has ever suffered from a hangover.  Dehydration causes the brain to shrink away from the skull slightly, hence the painful headache. Drinking a lot of water along with, and after, the consumption of alcohol will help prevent some or all of these symptoms. The only water which is truly good for us is good, clean healthy great tasting pure water.
