Pure Eau looks at how the UK ‘s water infrastructure has changed over the last 20 years
Since Privatisation some 20 years ago, water and sewerage sectors have made huge improvements to the neglected infrastructure, polluted beaches and rivers within the UK. We are no longer labelled the ‘dirty man of Europe’, according to Ofwat (The Water Services Regulation Authority) www.ofwat.gov.uk. Ofwat is responsible for economically regulating water and sewerage sectors throughout England and Wales, and are there to ensure companies provide household and business consumers with a good quality service and value for money. Pure Eau knows all about quality water. All our water has been through a process called Reverse Osmosis which ensures the water is filtered and pure enough to drink.
Ofwat faces many challenges ahead, despite having a cleaner environment and better services which are safer, better and more secure than ever.  New challenges threaten not just the progress made, but also the long term water security. Climate change is a big issue for the UK as well as the rest of the World, and mitigating the effects, as is the weather, demographics, lifestyles and environmental standards which all affect supplies and services.  Worldwide water scarcity is a problem and one which needs to be urgently addressed. We take for granted the easy access to drinking pure water at work or home. Water coolers and water filters are able to supply the nation with fresh water on demand – we are fortunate at the moment but what about the future? The population is growing; hence supply may not be able to sustain demand. Environmental standards are becoming increasingly stringent, adding the pressure to comply. These challenges will inevitably make delivering safe, reliable, efficient and affordable services increasingly difficult, with the challenges ahead uncertain.
Ofwat will be publishing a series of ‘Focus reports’. These will be aimed at informing customers other stakeholders about different areas of their work or latest ideas around a particular issue. ‘A drain on society – what can be done about water debt?’ report in particular, looked at the problem of customer debt within the water and sewerage sectors and their thoughts about tackling it. Publishing reports provoke and encourage discussion and action, and stakeholders often help them to find the right long term, sustainable solutions. Ofwat plan on carrying out a number of future key projects as part of a ‘future regulation’ programme, which will aim to review fundamentally what they do, why they do it, and provide recommendations on what the future approach should be. Water is a tough business. Ensuring you provide quality water is essential. At Pure Eau has a solution to all your water requirements. Our water coolers and water filters provide you and your family with nothing but pure water to hydrate health bodies and minds.
