Pure Eau says NO to water in our bangers
Whatever next? Or should that be WHICHEVER next? The giants at ‘Which’ (www.which.co.uk – 26/1/11) have been at it again, campaigning for the Great British Public to ensure we are not being ripped off with our bangers. It appears the big supermarkets think they can fool us by bloating up our bacon and ballooning up our sausages with water to add weight. Here at Pure Eau we understand all about the benefits of drinking pure water but in our bangers? – I think not! We advocate that food containing water to hydrate the body is crucial in ensuring you get your 8 glasses a day but not in our bacon thanks. By drinking pure water through Pure Eau’s water coolers and water filters, you can ensure you drink all the water you need.
‘Which’, claim their research was conducted by public analysts at an official food control laboratory. They tested two samples of each product for added water, fat, moisture, ash, protein and actual meat content. They found 4 out of 15 packs of rashers tested failed the regulations, when no more than 10% of water should be added to any pack of bacon. Rashers of bacon sold by Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Morrison’s were found to have more than 10% of water added. The highest amount came in a pack of Morrison’s Sizzlers rindless unsmoked British back bacon, which had 13 per cent added water yet ironically the lowest average of water was found in cheap 'It's Value' Morrison’s bacon which had just 3 per cent extra liquid. Under the Meat Products regulations, the packaging must state ‘bacon with added water’ and ‘Country of origin’ also was found to be a problem. Companies like Aldi and Lidl do not disclose where their pork is from, but it is actually imported from the EU. We like to know where our water is coming from too – which is why all our water is filtered through reverse osmosis. Our water is nothing but pure.
Producers of these products claim the added liquid is a necessary part of processing and can add succulence. However, the ploy is highly lucrative for the food industry as it means shoppers are effectively paying for water which disappears during cooking. The high water content explains why much bacon spits fat and then shrivels to a fraction of its size when fried! Pure Eau offers you exactly that – pure water. Our water coolers and water filters supply you only pure water to hydrate your body and keep it in optimum health.
