A nice glass of chlorine anyone… Pure Eau discusses the dangers to health of chlorine in drinking water
We usually associate chlorine with swimming pools, yet it is added to our drinking water by water authorities to combat infectious waterborne diseases. Pure Eau looks at the evidence to suggest that added chlorine may actually be doing much more harm to our health than good. A public notice issued in Washington, DC, warned that a high level of bacteria in the chlorinated, fluoridated city-system water made it unsafe for dialysis, AIDS and organ-transplant patients, the elderly and infants. Pure Eau only provides water which has been through the process of reverse osmosis which means that all contaminants are removed (including chlorine). We supply to health authorities too particularly when it comes to treating patients on dialysis because of the need for totally purified water. Our water filters and water coolers do just that, so we can supply homes, hospitals and businesses with totally pure water.
The chemical element chlorine is a corrosive, poisonous, greenish-yellow gas that has a suffocating odor and is 2 1/2 times heavier than air and belongs to the group of elements called halogens. The halogens combine with metals to form compounds called halides. Chlorine is manufactured commercially by running an electric current through salt water. This process produces free chlorine, hydrogen, and sodium hydroxide. Chlorine is changed to its liquid form by compressing the gas. It is then mixed into drinking water and swimming pools to destroy bacteria. Pure Eau believes that drinking water should be free from all contaminants so we remove everything to ensure you drink nothing but pure water in our water coolers and water filters.
Until recently, concerns about drinking water focused on eliminating pathogens. The chlorine used to reduce the risk of infectious disease may account for a substantial portion of the cancer risk associated with drinking water. Chlorination of drinking water was a major factor in the reduction in the mortality rates associated with waterborne pathogen. The use of chlorine was believed to be safe, yet the concerns about cancer risks associated with chemical contamination from chlorination by-products have resulted in numerous epidemiological studies. These studies generally support the notion that by-products of chlorination are associated with increased cancer risks.
According to Dr. Joseph M. Price, MD, in Moseby's Medical Dictionary, "Chlorine is the greatest crippler and killer of modern times. It is an insidious poison". Pure Eau is concerned that more and more chemicals are being added to our water supply without a clear understanding of the risks to health. Our water which has been put through reverse osmosis provides you and your family with as much pure drinking water you can drink – free from all toxins and contaminants.
