Pure Eau applauds 'The world walks for water'

The ‘World Walks for Water’ was a global event running between 19-22 March 2011 according to www.endwaterpoverty.org. It raised awareness of the World’s current water and sanitation crisis, demanding strong government action to stop the needless deaths of 4000 children every day. Over 350,000 globally took part. Other water and sanitation campaigns and networks joined in.  Women and young girls in third world countries are still walking 40 billion hours per year carrying water weighing 18 kg. This water is contaminated and unsafe to drink and causes disease, missed lives, missed education and ultimately death. Pure Eau believe that it should be a basic human right to clean and pure water free from contaminants. Our water coolers and water filters ensure you drink as much pure water as you require. The campaign was a huge success. ‘World Walks for Water’ produced an amazing film showing what happened during the campaign and a brochure titled “ World Walks for Water”  including an A2 fold out map showed all the 75 countries where walks took place.  50,000 people walked in Uganda, and politicians in the Netherlands, the UK, the Philippines, Belgium and Ghana took part and made strong promises to act. 26,000 school children from 165 schools walked the equivalent of four times around the world because their peers in other countries had to miss school when they walk for water. The brochure has been printed in both English and French and has already been used to lobby world leaders at the LDC conference.  All coalition members are due to receiving a copy of the brochure. The walk built on the success of the World’s Longest Toilet Queue in 2010, and demanded that politicians in the North and the South keep their promises and step up their efforts to ensure water and sanitation for all people, everywhere.
