Legionnaires’ Disease - Pure Eau’s ‘Illimani Ice Tap’ solves the problem
Legionnaires’ disease is a potentially fatal lung infection (pneumonia) and is caught by breathing in small droplets of contaminated water. It is 3 times more common in men than women, and it mostly affects people who are over 50 years old. An estimated 10-15% of otherwise healthy people who contract Legionnaires’ disease will die. The number of deaths may be higher in people with pre-existing health conditions, such as a weakened immune system. Legionnaires’ disease is not contagious and cannot be spread directly from person to person and is caused by the Legionella bacteria. This disease was first identified after a mass outbreak at a hotel hosting a convention of a veteran organization known as the American Legion. Pure Eau understands all about contaminated water and water borne diseases and our water filters and water coolers supply water which has been processed through the reverse osmosis process to ensure the water you drink is pure.
Symptoms of Legionnaires disease start off with a high fever and muscle pain, tiredness and confusion. Once the bacteria begins to infect the lungs, patients may also develop a persistent cough, shortness of breath and chest pains. Some people also develop digestive problems including feeling or being sick, diarrhoea and loss of appetite. Prompt treatment using antibiotics is essential to reduce the risk of death. Legionella bacteria is found in sources of water including river and lakes. The bacteria sometimes find their way into artificial water supply systems including air conditioning systems, hot and cold water services and cooling towers. Here at Pure Eau we pride ourselves on offering your home or business with nothing but pure water to drink. We remove all the contaminants, and filter out all the toxins to enable you to drink nothing but pure water.
Within the right conditions, legionella bacteria can rapidly spread and contaminate these water systems. Large buildings, such as hotels, hospitals, museums and office blocks, are more vulnerable to legionella contamination because they have larger and more complex water supply systems in which legionella contamination can quickly spread. All the more important to ensure the installedwater filter and water coolers include reverse osmosis technology. Strict regulations regarding maintenance and control of water supply systems are now in place to prevent outbreaks. Water has to be cooled below 20ºC (68ºF) or heated above 60ºC (140ºF). In 2009, 345 reported cases of Legionnaires’ disease were recorded in England and Wales according to the NHS (www.nhs.uk) it’s thought that 163 of these cases occurred while the affected person was travelling, either abroad or in the UK. At Pure Eau our ‘Illimani Ice Tap’ supplies you with endless amounts of boiling and chilled water at your disposal which meets with regulations. The actual number of cases of Legionnaires’ disease may be much higher than the reported number of cases. This is because not everyone with pneumonia may have the relevant test for Legionnaire’s disease, particularly those with milder symptoms. Therefore, these cases may not be reported to the health authorities. It is crucial to drink only pure water which is why Pure Eau offers nothing less than fresh and pure drinking water through our water coolers and water filters. Pure Eau has a solution to all your drinking water needs. Our water coolers and water filters allow you to drink as much pure water as you can drink.
