Mild Tsunami in picturesque Devon
With the horrendous outcome of the Tsunami affecting Japan, it is quite worrying to think that Tsunamis can strike anywhere and in any country – even sleepy Devon. Today Pure Eau heard the reports in the news (www.bbc.co.uk 29/6/11) of a mild Tsunami happening in Devon on Monday affecting Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Hampshire. According to witnesses, the tidal surge swept down the Yealm estuary near Plymouth, at approximately four times the normal speed. Coastal experts think that the mild Tsunami along the South West coast was probably caused by an underwater landslide. All the same, water has many benefits which is why we love it at Pure Eau – nature at its best. We believe that the simple things in life often work the best which is why our water is as natural as possible to aid health, so our water has nothing added to it, with contaminants and toxins removed, using a water filter.
The surge although considered to be a rare occurrence, still had enough impact for rivers to change direction, fish to leap out of the water and residents hair to stand on end due to static! We take for granted that our rivers and oceans will remain the same which is why Pure Eau understands totally why life cannot continue without endless supplies of pure water as it is the elixir of life. Our water coolers and water filters use a process called ‘Reverse Osmosis’ which removes all contaminants, allowing you to drink nothing but Pure water.
Dr Davidson, an associate professor in coastal processes also told the BBC that surges are quite rare and this occurrence was probably not a tidal phenomenon, but more likely to be a mild tsunami, although not due to an earthquake (which is the normal source) but probably caused by a sub-marine landslide. According to the Tidal Gauge Anomaly measure, which records the difference between the forecast tide and the actual tide, the anomaly on Monday morning in Newlyn, Cornwall was 0.2m (0.7ft), in Plymouth 0.3m (1ft) and in Portsmouth 0.4m (1.3ft) The MET Office in Exeter said it did not think anything in the weather could have caused the change in the tidal pattern and The British Geological Survey said there was no seismic activity in UK waters over the weekend. However, we know that pollution has a huge impact on weather and the activity within the ocean so who knows? We at Pure Eau are very conscious of the way we treat our planet which is why our water coolers and water filters do their bit to keep you hydrated without cluttering up the environment!
