Enceladus – Saturns Moon and the ICE particles 

Enceladus is Saturn’s sixth moon. It reaches just over 300 miles wide and is an icy existence. The presence of water makes it one of a few other places in the solar system where life could exist. It is backlighted by the sun and scientists discovered it is spewing plumes of water ice originating from a saltwater reservoir according to the New York Times (www.nytimes.com)  22/6/11. Enceladus was discovered in 1789 by Sir William Herschel, a German-born, England dwelling astronomer and composer who is widely thought of as the discoverer of both infrared radiation and the idea that coral is an animal not a plant.  For centuries we’ve known that Enceladus’ outer shell was a layer of ice, but we never knew until recently if that ice extended down to the core or stopped somewhere in between plumes in the moon’s icy crust,  apparently release tiny grains of ice along with water vapor into space.  Samples of ice particles from the plumes were gathered by NASA’s Cassini spacecraft, and the research found that salt-rich particles make up more than 99 percent of the solids ejected in Enceladus’s plumes. The researchers theorize that there are actually two reservoirs connected to the plumes. The first is a saltwater reservoir close to the moon’s surface that is directly feeding the plumes.  But feeding this reservoir, there is most likely a larger, deeper saltwater reservoir, It is thought that ice and the ice core there is an ocean of depth and this is somehow connected to the surface reservoir.
